Public holiday for by-election causes a stir

PENANG: Tomorrow will be a public holiday for the state “to ensure a
full turnout of voters for the critical Permatang Pauh by-election”, Chief
Minister Lim Guan Eng said.

He said in a statement that Penang had been
mulling over the matter since the Election Commission fixed a working day as the
polling day “in defiance of public opinion that the move will reduce voter
turnout.”

“Clearly, reducing the voter turnout will affect the election
results as it may be seen as favouring one party over the other,” he said.

He said this sentiment was further reinforced by the announcement of
Education Ministry Director-General Datuk Alimuddin Mohd Dom that all government
schools in Permatang Pauh would be given a special holiday on the day.

Lim said this act by the Federal Government clearly showed that the
by-election was of crucial national significance and with wide implications.

“This is due to the participation of (de facto PKR leader) Datuk Seri
Anwar Ibrahim and his attempt to return to Parliament and make a bid for Federal
power as the alternative Prime Minister,” Lim said.

However, the state
government’s move has created a furore.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri
Najib Tun Razak said the move was unprecedented.

“I don’t see why a
public holiday is needed as the by-election is exclusively for the Permatang
Pauh constituency. This (declaration) must have been a political decision,” he
said during a speech at a meet-the-people session in Mengkuang Titi, Penanti.

If the entire day was a holiday, he said, the state would face huge
losses in terms of productivity.

Najib said the public and private
sectors could instead allocate an hour or two for their employees to come out
and vote.

He added that the matter was under the state’s purview and the
federal government could not override the decision.

Barisan Nasional
candidate Datuk Arif Shah Omar Shah said the move showed that Pakatan Rakyat
leaders were desperate, and feared that Anwar might lose.

“Instead of
favouring them, it will be an advantage to me,” he said.

“I expected
only about of 3,500 additional votes compared with the March 8 general election
but it will be more now.”

In Bukit Mertajam, Anwar said he appreciated
the state government’s move to declare tomorrow a public holiday.

“It is
difficult for voters to cast their votes on a working day. It is good that a
public holiday has been declared,” he told reporters after checking out the PKR
operations room in Penanti here yesterday.

MIC deputy president Datuk G.
Palanivel asked: “Why a public holiday? Does Guan Eng know what kind of losses
factories and businessmen will incur because of the holiday?”

today, jas picked me up at 8.30 and there we go heading to bukit mertajam.she claims that she knows the way as she used to live there. AHEM. in the end, we got lost. almost went to ipoh instead. it was partly my fault tho. LOL. so yeah, we got there at around 9.30.

and there,they have this weird thing - the parking booklet. you gotta get the booklet frm the shops nearby in order to park your car at those spaces. it works just like any other parking meter in penang. i still find it unusual. LOL

BWAHAHAHA!. *i'm speaking the truth* x)

LOL. we were laughing our asses off in the car cuz he sounded serious.

that's about it. went home after that. jon was so tired out cuz he had to be our 'ahmad' =driver the whole day. he's dying for a retirement. LOL. we'd let him retire when we get another fella to replace. probably eli's BF then! xD! .

really had a great time today with her and B.O.Y.F.R.I.E.N.D. things were a lil difficult for me lately and that is why she took me out for a break and jadi lamppost! i love you x)

i was just telling her yesterday that this yr's birthday is one of the best cuz i had like so many surprises .7days has passed since my birthday and i was given a diff surprise each day. can you imagine how elated or thankful i was. haha. lets review things. on sunday, i went out with esther,loo and josephine. it was planned le, but still, i really had fun. and then,monday, i received this bottle of stars from amanda. she stuffed it into my bag without me knowing and i had a great time figuring out who the person was. lol. tuesday, i was absent frm sch. next, wednesday, received the card from darling and pee wee. i was flattered x) thursday which was yday, i received one box full of hearts and stars. dammnn, i was so HAPPY. so that was when i talked to esh, and i told her " i guess today would be the last day receiving gifts". well, she actually smirked and told me, that's not the end of it. i was curious but didnt really bother. and then, here comes TODAY. she came to sch as early as 7 am and i was already sitting down at my place rushing to finish homework which i've not done =p and thennn, she came to me and gave me this paper bag. i was like, " cho ha mi eh this paper bag, you luan luan tim your stuff on my table wan" she just kept quiet till i opened the paper bag and i saw this lovely GREEN BOTTLE. it's really beautiful, i just LOVEEE IT and there's a card in there too!

i was in a state of euphoria all day upon receiving this. i'm a person who's very selective about the reality i choose to accept. my mind tells me i'm a pessimist. i guess i had the wrong idea about the whole thing. i just gotta reach out and touch. well, not too late x) it's like another sign from above that i should learn to appreciate. =) another surprise today! fm darling =]

Today’s an awesome day . I had another big big big surprise. It was.. I don’t know. It’s beyond words. We had our seniors’ farewell at lil cottage this afternoon. So yeah, esther , jeslynn and I walked there. last period today was bio, so I had to walk back to class to get my bag, meet up with esther and we headed for the gate.

To my surprise, my ugly-looking bag wasn’t there. went round searching for it and finally found it on the teacher’s chair.. Grr. Was cursing all the way cuz we were running out of time. Gotta walk fast, reach there early, finish lunch on time and rush for the rc meeting. I was carrying my file,books,a gigantic bottle and the yellow tupperware. It was a lot of hassle and being the clumsy me, everything fell off my hands. So I had esther to open my bag and dump everything in. there was actually something ‘uncommon’ in there and she did not notice as it was way too messy. It’d probably be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

so everything went on as planned, had lunch with everyone and left by 3.30. next destination, rc hq for meeting. the meeting adjourned at 4.45 sharp. Mum picked me up at 5. I came home, bathed, and went online. After lazing around for almost an hour, it’s then 6. Thought I should be studying by then. So, I went down to get my pencil case frm my bag and this silver paper bag caught my eyes . something more pleasant looking than anything else in my bagg.

So curiosity got the best of me and when I took that silver paper bag out, that’s what I saw x), i was content. my thoughts, my awareness, this world, these senses, this moment– each becomes, by unique turns, ever more faceted, allowing of ever more interpretations, re-considerations, contemplations. I was speechless. in fact, there were 2 scrolls of paper hidden in it and one of them says..

LOL. and and and, we failed terribly in DDR.para-para as well. goodness. they actually grade you each time you play, and we got a 'F'. pfft.we excelled in everything else but that.*self vomits* we actually suck at basketball too. everyone was laughing their asses off. can't help it x)

her voice was so inimical that sudden tears came into the eyes.no
matter how much everyone tried, nothing soothed the raw edges of her damaged
heart.it's just time to let her memories unclench. a breathing space - it was
exactly what she needed.

she met up with her friends today,yeah again. everything went on well till
sometime after dinner,the feeling of gloom and depression took over. she then
had the sudden urge to gobble up everything around.nothing was left tho.

so her goody buddies namely, eli lau, siew, and jas suggested fish spa.
ouch. it didnt work. next destination, baskins. she had green tea i-scream.
*she actually had one scoop of that last night* so yeah, AGAIN. next was
that mamak stall. kassim mustapha. they had food again. then went back.

i hope it's just not too late to patch things up.everything.

that is the word! WEE! i can't exactly explain why but i've been 'high' the whole day despite the 'torture' i went through !!! i've done my share of worrying for one whole night. that is enough. and besides, i'm on the right track,why give a damn about it? see. slaps self AGAIN. haha.

bwahahaha. anyway,today,after school, mama came to fetch me and we met up with yeat hon. we were supposed to have duckie rice for lunch BUT we were a lil late and they ran out of duckies so we ended up eating chicky rice instead. it was good le.having to meet up with him before he leaves for flight sch is definitely necessary. he has been a real good tutor. really. these ppl were actually fighting over stuff like,who should pay for lunch, drinks and all sort of things while i sat down and watch! HAHA! towards the end, mama wanted everyone to take their share. more like she wanted to push everything to us. she was saying,"wuen should take this piece of chic, yeat hon must drink the soup and i'd take that piece of cucumber" yadayadayada..LOL.

okay. cut the crap. next , we invaded yeat hon's hse. we made him put on his uniform and oh mann, IT'S SO COOL. seriously. we were speechless. i mean, we were le, over the fact that he finally achieved it .i just had to smile at his optimism. it's really some dream-come-true thing. so PROUD to have such a friend man. well, i've always wanted to be in that uniform. i hope i WILL, one fine day. so yeah, check out the photos below just in case you're wondering why were we crazy over it. we had to like.. pester him to wear his full u and of cuz, we took loads of pics in that few minutes. HAHAHA. that's solely cause we're excited and happy for him as well.

wuen IS happy. really. not over what had happened,just merely cause i realized how much some kids appreciate my lil effort. they're great,it's the thought that counts. how much they tried cheering me up - all kindnesses performed without words. i was aware of their presence, their compassion. for the most part, these were people still living the same hard-scrabble lives as some of us did tho i seemed inhabitants of a place i no longer belonged.

My whole being was concentrated on two things. first, on keeping hold , in whatever way i could, of my sanity . second, on the certainty that things ain't that bad,changes could be made.i sorta refused to accept that my
attempts were futile. that's so meeee =)

today, i had my favourite 'tang yuan' for lunch. the satisfaction was beyond words=) went out with mum after add math tuition and we had 'tang yuan' and a few other desserts. i forgot what are they called , so let the pics do the saying instead.

ahh, enough of food for today. i ended up at queensbay after that. mum was still very eager to shop tho she had her left foot bandaged. everyone laughed. oh man,she's a real shopaholic but thank god she's not a compulsive spender.

food always get me elated but it does not last. it's a momentary lapse of concentration. at the end of the day, you'd be falling back through the crack. i have always wanted to say what i came here to say. unweighted. unloaded. don't justify my choice.no obligations attached, no string. i need all the time on earth. haha. not making sense again. lol

electromagnetism, magnetic flux, faraday's law.LALALA. these are the things i've been doing since 7.00AM. i had esther to wake me up at 6.30 but i went back to bed after replying.LOL. it's just the perfect day today for shopping. BUT due to mum's tennis ball ankle, i had to stay home and stare at FARADAY's LAW.

oh oh and, jaslyn's leaving for kl and then sydney later on for the World Youth Day which will be held on the 15th. woo hoo! sounds really fun as they'd be camping on the last day and for the rest of the time,they'd be with their foster parents. but she'd be all alone as they're all separated from one another. i am sure she'd do fine tho.

in life, there are moments when you miss someone so much that you would only fulfill your dreams by holding that person tight in your arms. is that so?. ahh, im confused once again. lets just follow the flow.till then.

WEE! okay. speaking of that 'tu ka' , it's actually my mum's poor lil foot. she sprained it this morning while jogging. according to her, she was admiring those new houses around and tripped. at err.. BOTANICAL GARDENS? another monkey heaven. lol. i suppose, she ran into this miniature version of Tiger Woods' banglo laa.
saja bagi excuse. anyway, i took the opportunity to 'ta pao' her tu ka. it was clearly a job for a real professional like..err..me? *self vomits* lol. she ended up screaming in pain anyway while i bandaged it. HAHAHA. it's currently the shape of a table tennis ball and she was asking me if it's okay to jog tomorrow. how about hiking then,i asked? OF CUZ NOT LE. told her to go ahead tho if she wants to walk with a swollen ankle of the size of a tennis ball instead. the title says it all,i'm being random today. finally gathered enough patience and time to set up this blog after much persuasion by pee wee. this weird sucky name(pee wee) refers to pei wen!. the freak whom i happen to love a lot as she smiles her ass away each time she sees me especially when she's with darling est.

i've got tonnes circling in mind right now. confusion's playing its role in further messing up things. how brilliant. haha. i don't sound sensible, do i? everything turned out to be more of an endurance test than a pleasure. i am definitely the right one to be blamed as we were humiliated beyond endurance. pffft. i just have to finish what i had to say with a gesture of despair. i am making no sense. signs from above. time to bed. alright. till then.
